Volunteer Planting in White Pine, TN

March 25, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

TACF’s TN Chapter is expanding its orchard of potentially blight resistant chestnuts derived from the Nanking line. This Chinese chestnut line was selected based on its high level of resistance to the blight, and we are actively incorporating it into our breeding program at Kate’s Bluff. We will plant four separate crosses derived from this Chinese source bred with regionally-adapted American trees. Take part in making a difference for the future of this great tree – please join us on March 25!

Be sure to bring water, lunch and snacks; gloves; sun block/sun hat; bug spray; and dress for the weather. Please also bring a shovel if you have one and a bucket to help you carry some planting materials. This is an well-maintained site and easy to navigate.

Please RSVP to participate in this planting. Contact TACF’s Southern Regional Science Coordinator, Ed Schwartzman at ed.schwartzman@acf.org or 443-906-9312.
