Volunteer Planting in Asheboro, NC

March 27, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Carolinas Chapter is supporting forestry research and a breeding orchard planting at Clodfelter Farm in Asheboro. Please join us to help plant on Monday, March 27. We need your hands, determination, and good will to make this planting a success!

Background
Animals like to eat chestnuts and their new growth. Whitetail deer are particularly problematic. Some form of protection is required for young chestnut trees. This study will will compare cost and time investments and tree growth rates of the various planting methods. Trees will be inspected at intervals to assess quality. Poorly resistant trees will eventually be culled, leaving a natural breeding orchard of the best blight resistant trees. Volunteers will help plant approximately 300 seeds using several protection methods.

Get Involved
A volunteer crew is needed to make this happen. To sign-up and/or learn more, contact TACF’s Southern Regional Science Coordinator at ed.schwartzman@acf.org or 443-906-9312.
