Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) is planning several events in April in conjunction with Arbor Day and Earth Days.
On Thursday, April 20 from 10:00am-2:00pm, an Arbor Day chestnut planting ceremony and picnic will take place at the historic Elmwood estate near the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. TACF’s KY Chapter will have a table at this event. There will be a ceremonial planting of three trees, a tree care workshop, tree climbing and geocaching, tree identification tours, a “zero waste” lunch and various informational displays.
The following day, April 21, a Day of Tree Service will be held at the University’s Taylor Fork Ecological Area on the southern edge of campus. 1,000 American chestnut seeds will be planted at the orchard site which was established in 2016 as part of a national effort by TACF to restore the tree to its past glory.
