On June 9, the CT Chapter will have an orchard demonstration at the Salem Backcross Orchard from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, hosted by CT Chapter board member, David Bingham. First we will tour the backcross orchard he established on his property in 2006. At this time of year many of the larger sized trees will be in bloom giving us an up close view of the flowering trees. Following the tour, we will travel a short distance to his family camp to see one of the remaining native American chestnut trees in CT which survives on that property. This tree was used as a mother tree for some of the seeds used in the orchard. We will also have some light refreshments at the Bingham Family Camp.
Directions: the Salem Orchard is on White Birch Rd. in Salem, CT. From Rt 82 (East Haddam Rd), turn south onto Darling Road and after 0.2 miles bear right onto White Birch Rd at the first stop sign. Go 0.2 miles on White Birch Rd and look for signs for TACF on the left.
