Dear Chestnut Lovers,
We will be inoculating the chestnut trees in the Mt. Zion orchard on Wednesday afternoon and would love your help. That’s June 13.
Inoculation involves drilling small holes through the bark, placing a bit of chestnut blight fungus in the holes, then taping over the holes to keep the fungus from drying out. There are several different tasks for volunteers, including record-keeping. Many hands will make light work.
Mt. Zion orchard is in Aldie. We will start around 2:00 and work for 2-3 hours, depending on how many people come to help.
If you have a small, hand-held drill, that would be useful. Otherwise, we have plenty of supplies. But bring your own bug spray and sun screen.
Please let me know if you’d like to help.
